Challenges & Opportunities
Pinta has a solid foundation as a powerful open-source image editor, but its website needed a modern refresh to stay competitive in the evolving graphic design space.
The existing site wasn’t responsive, making it less accessible across devices, and its design didn’t align with other leading open-source graphics applications. To appeal to a broader audience—including designers, hobbyists, and open-source enthusiasts—the website needed a fresh, professional look that reflected Pinta’s capabilities and the vibrant community behind it.

Website Redesign
We’ve updated Pinta with a modern design that adjusts gracefully to any screen size. The new layout puts the interface front and center, offering users a clear glimpse of its tools and features. An intuitively organized menu guarantees smooth navigation, while carefully curated graphics underscore Pinta’s role as a powerful yet approachable image editing tool.
User Experience & Accessibility
Navigation was streamlined to help users quickly find downloads, documentation, and community resources. We improved accessibility by optimizing contrast, refining typography, and ensuring smooth animations enhance usability without distraction. Clear organization and thoughtful design choices make the site more intuitive, appealing to both new and experienced users.
Light & Dark Mode
To enhance usability and customization, we implemented a light-mode/dark-mode toggle. This feature allows users to choose their preferred interface style, improving readability and comfort. By default, the site loads in dark-mode, keeping in vogue with design trends.
Website Visual Identity
We refined Pinta’s website design to align with other open-source graphics applications. Using a blend of familiar fonts and a logo-inspired colour palette, we created a cohesive experience, with colours strategically highlighting key actions for better usability.
Community & Contributor Access
We made it easier for users to connect with Pinta’s open-source community by providing accessible signposts to forums, development resources, and contribution guidelines. The new layout ensures that both users and developers can easily find the information they need, whether they’re looking for support, reporting issues, or contributing to the project.
Performance & Optimization
The new site is optimized for lightning-fast load times, offering a seamless browsing experience. Using modern web technologies, we enabled the site to automatically fetch the latest updates, keeping content fresh without manual input.
This approach minimizes maintenance work for the Pinta team while ensuring users stay up-to-date.
